Rangers of Shadow Deep - The Missing - The Infected Trees

[Since The Missing went so easily, we decided to play The Infected Trees with "Challenge Mode" on.]

Taking just enough time to bind Robin's wounds, and build a pyre for the dead, Serrol, Smootley and their teams followed the strange tracks from the village into the nearby woods.  Tracking the spiders, the group discovered heavily webbed trees, and egg cocoons - this must be the spider's nesting spot.  The nests must be destroyed, or other villages will share the fate of the village of Zanci.

Smootley and his team of companions took the west path; Serrol and his companions headed in on the east.  

Smootley and his team had a reasonably clear path to the nest trees - only a single spider in their way.  Their focus was to be to get to the nest trees and set them ablaze, investigating what cocoons they could quickly.

Serrol was to fight the large grouping of spiders on the eastern side, and then would try to meet up with Smootley at the nest trees.

This did not quite go as well as Serrol and his team expected....

Moving forwards, Smootley reached the closest cocoon, finding only a cold, dead corpse.

Serrol moved up to engage the spiders, trying to draw them to him while his team flanked.  Smootley moved up to search another cocoon, finding another corpse - however, this one was still moving.

The fight on the east side goes poorly.  Sakalas is poisoned and goes down, and Serrol is seriously wounded and poisoned.  Cadderly gets stuck in a web, and is unable to assist.

Seeing Serrol and team in trouble, Smootley calls out "We're coming over!", to which Serrol responds "Get to the trees!  They must be destroyed!"

On the way to the trees, Karyn unwrapped another cocoon, finding nothing but a corpse.

While Serrol and Cadderly struggled with their spiders, Smootley and team managed to set most of the nest trees ablaze.

And then, like magic, Smootley discovered another nest tree.  Thankfully, they found it so they could make sure all the nests were destroyed.

As Smootley burned the last tree, he discovered a sword embedded in the trunk - when pulled from the tree, the blade glinted with magic!

Finally, Serrol and Cadderly defeated their spiders and Cadderly unwrapped the last cocoon.  Unfortunately, no survivors remained.

Fortunately, Sakalas came to, and with help, the badly wounded Serrol and Cadderly helped Sakalas back to camp, where he would make a full recovery.

This scenario was tough on Serrol and team - and most of it was my own fault.  I didn't make use of Serrol's Heroic Abilities, which could have made the difference, and came out without a Heal spell.  I think I'm going to make Heroic Ability cards so I have a better visual cue as to my abilities so this does not happen again.

Also, Serrol has both the Armour and Enchanted Steel spells, but it seems like he only has time to cast one before he's knee deep in it.  So, I believe I will swap spells when I level up next.
